Must Watch Fashion Film 'The Devil Wears Prada' Movie Review (eng)

Introduction

The movie "The Devile Wears Prada" is a very captivating masterpeice that jumps into the high-powered world of fashion. Set in the fashion industry in New York, it combines drama, comdedy, and of course a touch of glamour. It is directed by David Frankel and was released in 2006. However, it is a film that is loved and talked about until now for its intriguign storyline. The movie itself is an adaptation of author Lauren Weisberger's best selling novel under the same name.It is also not a secret that the story was based around Anna Wintour, fashion editor in chief for Vogue. The movie was able to bring the story to life with stunning actors and actresses that it became a timeless classic still loved by many, especially those interested in the fashion world.

 

 

Plot Summary

The story revolves around the life4 of Andrea Sachs, who was played by Anne Hathaway. She is a young aspiring journalist that just gradudated. She lands a seemingly mudnace job as the assistant to the powderful fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly, who was played by meryl Streep. Miranda was a demaning person for the prestigous fashion magainze 'Runway." Andy struggles as she was disinterested in the fashion world, but she realized the immense pressure and high-stake demans for her role. 

 

As Andy navigates through her new job, she faces a serioes of challenges that causes her to change herself. She adapts to the eccentric and demanding work environment and does everything she can in order to please her demanding boss. Her boss was well known for high standards and perfectiong. Eventually, Andy's professions life and personal life clashes with  each other as she is strung deeper into the glamorous and competitive world of fashion. 

 

Andy transforms from a naive outsider who doesn't careful her looks to someone confident and fashionable. She was guided by Nigel, Runway's art director (played by Stanley Tucci) and influenced highly by another assistant of Miranda, Emily (played by Emily Blunt) to change herself rather drastically. Andy goes over several steps of makeovers and grows her understanding and appreciation of what goes around in the fashion industry.

 

However, Andy's dedication to her new job negatively affects her personal relationships, especially with her boyfriend Nate, playe dby Adrian Grenier, and some of her closes friends.The more she dives deeperd into the fast-paced and high demanding fashion world, she is faced with many conflicting questions for the directions in her life. She has to decide what she has to sacrifice for her true happiness.

The movie "The Devil Wears Prada" is a must watch movies for fashion lovers. It is a movie still talked about till this day and mentioned during fashion week. It depicted the reality of fast-paced fashion world so well that many that are part of that industry agree on many parts of the movie until this day. It greatly influenced hwo the media industry is perceived and also shed light on the demaing nature of certain career paths.

 

 

Not only the visualization of the fashion industry, the fashion outfits that appeared in the movie also have become iconcid.The film's costume design team led by designer Patricia Field have made many memorable outfits that portrayed the characters very well. They also did a readlly good job to show how an outfit can change a person. In addition, recently, Anna Hathaway was also seen reimagining one her outfits from the movie when attending a fashion show. She was sat next to Anna Wintour, so the movie was once talked about as it is rumored she is inspriation for Miranda Priestly. 

 

 

As someone who loves fashion and wanted to work in the fashion industry, the movie really opened my eye of what the fashion industry could be like.The clothes, the schedules, the runways, the colors, the designs, and so on. I would say everything was fascinating. Like many other careers, being involved in the fashion industry requires certain sacrifices and the movie really showed that well. But it was so exciting to see the different outfits and stylings in the movie depending on the character. But I also believed if you had the potentional and the confidence like Andy had, you would have been able to figure out what you really wanted in life. 

 

 

The movie not only showed the pros of the fashion industry but also the cons. I beileve it's not just about the fancy glamour that you get to go through. It's a rather tough industry where people first to survive. You may look polished on the outside, but on the inside, you would be burning yourself out over and over again because of the high demands. You maybe able to get your hands on the next Chanel piece early, but you would have to grind yourself to be able to reach that point. You might not able to find yourself and not feel like achieving until way later in life. Especially with a boss like Miranda Priestly, one is bound to feel low self-esteem.

 

Thoughts about the the characters

Having Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci was perfect for the movie. I think everyone played their roles so well. But I would say my favorite character and actress was Meryl Streep who played Miranda Priestly, She was able to pull such a unique character. Seeing Meryle Streep as Miranda really makes you understand the title. The facial espressions and hand gestures were perfectly made and her staple outfits perfected her role. She didn't wear anything too colorful or with many patterns. She wore more of dark tones and without much skin showing. But she still looked so classy and fashionable. I think the most memorable fashion item by Meryl Streep in the movie are her glasses and sunglasses. I think these items portrayed her as an editor for a fashion magazine very well. But this also portrays the characteristics of Anna Wintour, I believe. 

 

 

Concluding

There are many movies out there where you come for the plot but leave talking about the outfits. I think "The Devil Wears Prada" is one of them. But additionally, this movie also has a great story and the outfit sets are just a bonus. I hope there will be more movies like this in the future where it's not just the plot and drama the story focuses on, but it also really focuses on the fashion itself.
